Aleve is composed of Generic Naproxen and belongs to the category of drugs called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This medication exerts its action by blocking the production of prostaglandins (chemicals that play a role in pain and inflammation). Aleve 500mg is helpful for treating joint pain, ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, menstrual pain, gout, juvenile arthritis, bursitis and tendonitis.

Under what conditions the use of Aleve 500mg is avoided?

  • Aleve tablet may result in ulcers and bleeding in your gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Ulcer and bleeding risk is elevated if you are elderly.
  • Generic Naproxen is not advisable for children younger than 2 years.
  • In presence of nasal congestion or nasal polyps, never use this painkiller.
  • If you have a problem of fluid retention or high blood pressure, then also avoid the use of Aleve 500mg.

What are the drug interactions of Aleve 500mg?

  • Antacids
  • Diuretics
  • Methotrexate
  • Anticoagulants like Warfarin
  • Other NSAIDs such as Aspirin

How to use Aleve tablet?

Aleve tablet is taken in the dose of 500mg usually once a day via oral route. It is taken with food if it causes an upset stomach. Swallow the whole tablet without breaking, crushing or chewing. Do not smoke or drink alcoholic drinks while taking this medication. 

What happens in case of overdose of Aleve?

An overdose of this painkiller may cause stomach pain, trouble breathing, dizziness, drowsiness and vomiting. If any of these overdose symptoms become troublesome for you, then immediately consult your doctor or nearby emergency department. 

What are the safety precautions that should be kept in mind while taking Aleve 500mg tablet?

  • Avoid drinking alcohol while on this medication as alcohol intake increases the possibility of developing a stomach ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding.
  • While using this medication, you are advised to avoid sunlight exposure, as you can sunburn more easily.
